Verena TanSenior Adviser, Research and Advocacy
Verena is an experienced lawyer who is responsible for the CIJ’s disability justice work including the Supporting Justice Project.
Verena worked in advocacy and reform to criminal justice systems in both Australia and Canada, to promote restorative and therapeutic justice that better responds to the needs of marginalised and disadvantaged communities. She worked for several years with people with mental health issues and disabilities at Victoria Legal Aid in both civil and criminal law.
Prior to the CIJ, Verena worked in policy and projects at the Neighbourhood Justice Centre and managed a criminal justice program in Toronto, Canada.
She holds a BA/LLB (Hons) and a Masters of Education (Social Justice Education, Collaborative Specialisation in Ethnic and Pluralism Studies) from the University of Toronto.
