Launch of “Implementing Yoorrook: Policy Pathways for Truth, Justice and Reform”
It was an honour to have Stan Winford, CIJ Director, invited to speak at the Launch of “Implementing Yoorrook: Policy Pathways for Truth, Justice and Reform” on Thurs 23 July, 2026.
Developed in collaboration between RMIT School of Law, the National Justice Project, the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research, and the International Commission of Jurists (Victoria), and authored by Dr Jeremie Bracka and Gheran Yarraman Steel, the reports draw on the contributions of Indigenous leaders, legal practitioners, researchers, policy makers, and community advocates who participated in the Yoorrook implementation roundtable and subsequent consultations.
Stan’s speech highlighted the generosity of spirit, willingness to share and help others learn about Aboriginal culture and history evidenced by the work of Yoorrook. “The least we can do is show the same spirit in return.”
These reports provide an opportunity to reflect on the work still required to translate truth-telling into meaningful reform and structural change.
“Yoorrook asked us to listen. The burning question for us is whether we’re going to act,” Stan said, highlighting the continuing injustice of the failure to act on Yoorrook’s recommendations.
