Based at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court, the Melbourne Drug Court is a therapeutic court that focuses on the rehabilitation and treatment of offenders with a drug and/or alcohol dependency, post-sentence.
As part of the placement, students will meet with Drug Court Magistrate Tony Parsons before the court begins, and have the opportunity to consider the case management feedback sheets used by case managers and treatment providers to communicate with the Court regarding participants’ progress.
Students will then observe the Drug Court in the morning and mainstream Magistrates’ Court in the afternoon, as a contrast.
