Neighbourhood Justice Centre Online Taster Placement

The Neighbourhood Justice Centre (NJC) is Australia’s only community justice centre. Located in Collingwood, it services the City of Yarra and is committed to resolving disputes by addressing the underlying causes of harmful behaviour and tackling social disadvantage.

This is a recording of the Neighbourhood Justice Centre Online Taster Placement which took place on Monday 17 August 2020.

The NJC has been effective in reducing crime, increasing community safety and creating savings by reducing the number of cases in the system. It has done this by bringing together multiple jurisdictions, and a wide array of support services and community initiatives.

This online taster placement gave RMIT students a chance to understand how ‘place-based justice’ works and what ‘one-stop-justice’ means.

Presenters:

  • Rebecca Hicks is Manager, Education & Public Programs at NJC
  • Beth King is the Senior Community Lawyer for Fitzroy Legal Service at the NJC
  • Charlie Watson is the Senior Lawyer for Victoria Legal Aid at the NJC
