Do mothers need better support in prison?

The number of women going to prison is rising. More than half of the women in Australian prisons have at least one dependent child, and around 10 per cent of all female prisoners are pregnant behind bars. Experts are concerned there’s not enough being done to support new mothers in Australia’s prison system and believe that more needs to be done to help both mother and child.
