What motivates you in your professional life?

I have worked in a few different contexts and sectors but throughout my career I have maintained a strong focus on communities – be it through community development, community engagement,  or enabling community led responses. I am motivated by integrity, work that empowers communities of all kinds, is committed to Aboriginal self-determination, and that is grounded in evidence – both evidence building and using of quality evidence.

What brought you to the CIJ?

I’ve long admired the work of the CIJ. I first came across CIJ when they were working with Woor-Dungin’s Criminal Record Discrimination Project, and more recently I became familiar with their work working alongside Djirra undertaking a feasibility study for a residential facility for Aboriginal women in contact with the criminal justice system. These projects are examples of what makes CIJ unique, in that we often undertake project work in research and evaluation in partnership or in support of our First Nations partners.

What are you looking forward to in your work with us?

Many things! This is a bit of a dream role – grounded in evidence and research, amplifying lived experience, with a strong commitment to impact.  I’m also looking forward to learning from my exceptional manager Elena Campbell and working with an excellent team of passionate and smart people focussed on making the justice system better for everyone.
