IVY Study: Towards an Australian response to the use of intimate partner Violence by Young People
The CIJ is proud to announce that we will be leading the IVY Study: Towards an Australian response to the use of Intimate partner Violence by Young People.
Funded jointly by Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS) and the NSW Office for Women, the IVY Study aims to build understanding of the extent to which young people’s use of intimate partner violence (IPV) can be understood as distinct from adult-perpetrated violence. It will also explore how services and agencies across Australia are currently responding to this cohort. The project will be delivered in partnership with the Centre for Family Research and Evaluation (CFRE) at Drummond Street Services and the Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS).The CIJ’s Elena Campbell will serve as the Principal Chief Investigator, extending and complementing her previous landmark research in relation to adolescent violence in the home (AVITH), as well as a follow-up project which articulated a collaborative practice framework for responding to young people’s use of violence in the home. Crucially, the IVY Study will continue the CIJ’s commitment to research with impact, informing the development of a system ‘blueprint’ to underpin a nationally consistent, developmentally appropriate and evidence-informed approach to responding to young people’s use of IPV.We look forward the vital contribution this research will make to Australia’s national research priorities in relation to domestic and family violence, and to ensuring that efforts to enhance victim survivor safety are underpinned by a robust evidence base.
