Semester 1 2019 Taster Placement opportunity

The Centre for Innovative Justice, together with the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Victoria is offering an opportunity to RMIT JD students to spend a day observing a criminal conviction and sentence appeal in the highest Victorian Court.

*Please note that applications have now closed. The successful candidates will be notified shortly.

The program includes:

—  attending an appeal hearing – with students given access to the written materials before the Court;

—  meeting Judges and Judicial Registrars – before and after court hearings. Judges will speak to students and answer questions about their career experiences and the substance (and challenges) of their role;

—  touring the Supreme Court Library

The placement will take place on Tuesday 7 May 2019.

Please note: Successful students will need to attend a pre-briefing session on Thursday 2 May 2019 at 5.00pm at CIJ. You also be required to either write a short reflective report or participate in a short recorded interview on their experience to be published by the Centre for Innovative Justice. Copies of the reports or interviews may be provided to the Appeal Justices.

Applications are to be emailed to the Centre for Innovative Justice via cij@rmit.edu.au  and include the following:

—  Tell us in 150 words why you would like to undertake this taster placement and how it would benefit you.

—  Tell us what year level you are in and the expected completion date of your JD.

—  Include a copy of your resume that includes current contact details.

Please note that we anticipate a Taster Placement program will also run in Semester 2.
